Dermot, Éamonn and John have recently completed a soon to be released album of lesser known local traditional music and song of South West Donegal, relating how meeting there in the early 80’s at small village festivals has been a basis of their disparate journeys towards their musical careers.
Éamonn and Kris started playing together about fifteen years ago. They met through the vibrant Edinburgh music scene but neither are Edinburgh natives; Éamonn is from Ireland and Kris is from Orkney. They have performed and toured together at various intervals since then, augmenting the busy schedules they have performing separately with other bands and musicians.
Salsa Celtica’s synthesis of Scottish and Irish traditional music with all the Latin American elements of salsa has taken them and their music all over the world to major celtic, jazz, world music and salsa festivals. Their albums have topped the New York and L.A. salsa charts and European world music charts, the band has been nominated for folk music awards and appeared as ‘themselves’ in a feature film.
Emerging from the vibrant melting-pot of Glasgow’s 21st-century folk scene, TREACHEROUS ORCHESTRA take Scottish dance music into a thrilling new dimension. Their début album ‘Origins’ was welcomed with wide-spread critical acclaim and won them many followers as did the follow-up, 2015’s ‘Grind’, which was nominated for Scottish Album of the Year and won Scottish Folk Album of the Year.
