Released in 2007 on Compass Records, HTS brings together and highlights the duo’s – Éamonn Coyne & Kris Drever – interest in the quirky side of the music they play, culminating in a swingy and groove orientated mix of tunes. As well as recording traditional music of various countries they play some self-penned and some newly written tunes. There are three songs sung by Kris on the album which receive a simple un-complicated treatment.
Éamonn plays banjo, mandolin and tenor guitar while Kris sings, plays guitar, tenor guitar, mandolin and double bass. They are joined by two percussionists on the recording – John-Joe Kelly (Flook, Michael McGoldrick Band, etc.) on bodhrán and Erik Laughton from Orkney on bodhrán and snare. more info
“It’s the live immediacy of Coyne and Drever’s playing that grabs you first, closely followed by its immense yet ultra-supple sophistication.
…mutually attuned musicianship of the first order…a breath of fresh air.”
